# About Default Filters for Owning Sites

In a global LIMS system, organizations often operate multiple sites that manage their own samples, tests, assets, consumables, instruments, and design data. Filtering these records by the sites to which they belong minimizes the risk of mistakes such as selecting the incorrect sample or moving records to an incorrect location. If configured, this feature places a default filter on LIMS screens that only shows site users the records owned by their site. However, users can remove this filter if they need visibility into records belonging to other sites.

The filter applies to the following screens:

* Spec Data Builder
    * Sample Plans
    * Test Definitions
* Test Definition Builder
    * Inputs
    * Target Test Definitions
* Stability Study Builder
    * Batch Selection
    * Spec Data Selection
* Test Execution
    * Asset/Consumable selection
    * Test Set Edit Sample selection
    * Sample Results Entry
    * Sample Management Page
    * Change Analysis merge workflows

## Setting the Owning Site Field

You can set the *Owning Site* field for applicable records during record creation in the Test Definition, Spec Data, and Stability Study Builders or on the record details page for applicable objects.
